Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Clayco Incorporated (St. Louis, Missouri), an engineering, design-build and construction services firm, is involved in more than $3 billion in active projects, according to Industrial Info's project database. About 70% already are under construction. All are within the U.S., and almost 85% of the total can be found in just two industries: Industrial Manufacturing, particularly in the warehousing and storage sector, and Metals & Minerals.
This week, Clayco landed a major contract with Nokian Tyres plc (Helsinki, Finland) to design and construct its $360 million tire-manufacturing plant in Dayton, Tennessee. The facility, which kicked off site preparation in September, will produce 4 million tires per year for passenger, sports utility and light truck vehicles, with a storage capacity for 600,000 tires. Nokian also is considering a proposed $5 million expansion that would follow the facility's planned completion in 2020, although Clayco has not yet been attached to it. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the tire-manufacturing plant and its expansion.
Clayco also is serving as general contractor on a slew of warehousing and distribution projects for two of the largest U.S. retailers: Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) and Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) (Goodlettsville, Tennessee). Projects under construction for Amazon include:
The CVS project is expected to wrap up this summer. Valeant also is weighing a proposed, $50 million extension in Woodruff that, if approved, would not begin construction until three years following the original facility's completion in 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the CVS facility, and the Valeant facility and its expansion.
South Carolina also is home to the largest project involving Clayco that is set to finish construction this year: Toray Industries Incorporated's (Tokyo, Japan) $600 million carbon fiber-manufacturing plant in Moore, South Carolina, which is expected to produce 1,800 to 2,000 metric tons per day of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber and associated products. Toray also hopes to begin construction later this year on the planned, $400 million second phase. Toray, the world's largest producer of carbon fiber, says the facility will be a major supplier to the aerospace industry. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports for Phase I and Phase II.
