Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cypress Creek Renewables LLC (Durham, North Carolina) is the latest to complete one of the numerous renewable energy projects underway in Texas. The company's Zier solar and energy storage project in Brackettville, Texas, was recently completed and has begun commercial operations.

Construction of the plant kicked off early last year, with Kiewit Power Constructors (Lenxas, Kansas) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on the project. In addition to more than 400,000 solar panels, which will provide more than 200 megawatts (MW) of power, Kiewit also added a 40-MW, 80 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS), capable of providing power when the sun isn't shining. The Zier facility is employing panels manufactured by Hanwha Q Cells, a subsidiary of South Korea's Hanwha Group (Seoul). Q Cells recently announced that it has completed construction of a manufacturing facility in Cartersville, Georgia, that will help the company expand its presence in North American solar farms and enable it to benefit from tax credits provided for panels that are made in the U.S. The plant is expected to produce about 2 gigawatts (GW) of panels this year, and next year will begin ramping up to full production of 3.3 GW of panels annually. A separate project at the site involves construction of two manufacturing buildings for the production of ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) encapsulant film. Industrial Info is tracking more than $1.5 billion in other Cypress Creek projects, which include standalone solar and battery facilities, as well as hybrid facilities employing both technologies. In Yakima County, Washington, Cypress Creek plans this year to begin construction on a solar-plus-BESS project. The solar portion will be able to deliver 80 MW of emissions-free power to the grid while a 40-MW, 160-MWh BESS unit will provide power in times when the sun isn't shining. Most of Cypress Creek's planned standalone BESS projects are planned for Texas. The majority of these are strategically located 100-MW systems, although the company is planning a larger 200-MW BESS near Kennedale, outside Fort Worth. Current plans call for construction of the system to start in early 2026, reaching completion by the end of that year. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
