Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Egypt is moving forward with the development of the US$15 billion El Tor Green Valley integrated renewable-energy project in South Sinai, as the Renergy Group Partners-led consortium advances technical, environmental and grid-integration studies for the large-scale development.
Industrial Info Resources data show 85 capital renewable-energy projects across Egypt, worth more than US$100 billion, including the El Tor Green Valley project.
The project is planned to integrate up to 15 gigawatts (GW) of solar power with a 3.1-GW pumped-storage hydropower facility, supported by green-hydrogen production, seawater desalination and associated transmission and export infrastructure. The integrated system is intended to strengthen Egypt's renewable-energy capacity while providing flexible generation and storage to support grid stability.
A key milestone was reached in April, when the consortium submitted a comprehensive Strategic Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (SESIA) covering the proposed solar facilities, pumped-storage plant, hydrogen infrastructure and associated transmission facilities. The development also includes a planned 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission connection to Egypt's national electricity grid.
In August, Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy reviewed progress on the project with representatives from Renergy Group Partners, Green Tech Egypt, Madkour and Andritz Hydro Power. Discussions focused on advancing the pumped-storage component and its integration with renewable generation to improve grid flexibility and reliability. Egypt's State Information Service has also confirmed government efforts to advance the 3.1-GW pumped-storage project in South Sinai.
The project is expected to be implemented in phases, with the initial phase focused on developing renewable generation and energy-storage capacity for supply to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.
