Summary

EOG is building out its presence in the Eagle Ford, Delaware Basin and Utica shale plays after its business picked up in the second half of 2025.

EOG Soars in Eagle Ford

Oil and gas exploration company EOG Resources is preparing to grow its activity in the Eagle Ford, Delaware Basin and Utica shale plays following stronger-than-expected operational results in 2025. Strong output and rising natural gas prices offset a drop in crude oil prices, and executives expect the coming year will provide more opportunities. Industrial Info is tracking about $1.66 billion worth of active and proposed projects from EOG, more than 40% of which is attributed to projects believed to have a high likelihood (81% or more) of beginning construction as scheduled.

"EOG plans to complete 585 net wells in 2026 across our domestic multi-basin portfolio of high-return inventory," the company said in a quarterly earnings-related press release. "The 2026 program targets low single-digit percentage average well cost reduction, benefiting from increasing lateral lengths and other sustainable efficiency gains."

EOG's core acreage in the Eagle Ford Shale accounts for a significant share of its projected 2026 activity, with many of its properties built to extract crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs). The Austin Chalk formation, which sits atop much of the northern Eagle Ford, also is expected to be a target of EOG's near-term plans.

Among the company's busiest developments is a series of fields in Webb County, Texas, which sits on the Mexican border and includes Laredo. Across the Eagleville, Hawkville, Wildcat and other fields, EOG plans to drill at least 40 new oil, gas and NGL wells, which will be tied into the gathering system and sent to a processing plant in Laredo. Like the company's other Eagle Ford drilling programs, it is expected to run into December.

Farther north, EOG is preparing to drill at least 15 new wells each in Karnes County and Gonzales County, also to be tied into its gathering system. Helmerich & Payne Incorporated is serving as contractor on these and other EOG developments in the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk. Subscribers can read detailed project reports on the Karnes County and Gonzales County programs.

By the Numbers
  • About $1.66 billion: Total investment value of projects from EOG tracked by Industrial Info
  • At least 40: Number of new oil, gas and NGL wells to be drilled at EOG's assets in Webb County, Texas
  • $5.6 billion: Price tag for EOG's acquisition of Encino in the spring of 2025

Capex, Output Set for Jolts

EOG plans to boost its 2026 capital expenditures (capex) to about $6.5 billion, from about $6.3 billion last year. Oil and total production are expected to grow 5% and 13%, respectively, from 2025. Much of the projected growth is attributed to EOG's $5.6 billion acquisition of Encino Acquisition Partners in the spring of 2025.

Other EOG projects outside the Eagle Ford include a series of developments in the Niobrara Shale in Wyoming, which is part of the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin. Most of these are smaller-scale projects in the Laramie Field, including:
EOG's total revenues for 2025 were reported to be $22.6 billion, a 4.5% decrease from 2024; net income stood at $5 billion, a 22.2% decrease. Executives attributed the declines to weak market conditions in the first half of 2025, which they said improved as the year progressed.
