Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $1.08 billion in plastics film and sheet projects in the U.S. The Plastics Film and Sheet Industry continues to grow in the Southeast region as demand increases for flexible packaging as well as bioplastic materials. The growth also is due to recycling of plastic, which serves as a substitute to glass and metal materials. Industrial Info is tracking five active projects totaling $502 million in the Southeast.

Georgia dominates the Southeast with projects valued at $500 million. The top three Georgia projects include:
  • A $200 million expansion of Beaulieu International Group's (Waregem, Belgium) cushion vinyl manufacturing plant in Cartersville. Georgia. Construction started in January 2015. The 300,000 square-foot plant will produce 47 million square yards of cushion vinyl for commercial and residential applications. The project also includes a 150,000 square-foot warehouse. Construction is anticipated to be completed this spring.
  • The $180 million expansion of Jindal Films Americas LLC's (Macedon, New York) polypropylene manufacturing plant in LaGrange. Construction began earlier this month. It will have installations for a new 424-inch-wide orientation line that will add 100 million pounds per year of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) capacity, plus the installation of a metallizer line to add 20 million pounds per year of BOPP film to enable the company to boost coating and slitting capabilities. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the fall of this year.
  • A $100 million expansion of a Toppan Printing Company America plant in Griffin. Construction kicked off in November 2014. It comprises a 127,000 square-foot manufacturing plant to supply transparent barrier films to packaging manufacturers in North America and Europe. New York-based Toppan Printing Company America is part of Toppan Printing Co., Limited (Tokyo, Japan). The plant will be Toppan's first transparent barrier film manufacturing site outside Japan, according to the company. Construction is anticipated to be completed this spring.
