Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 250-megawatt (MW) Rush Springs Wind Project, which is located in Grady and Stephen counties, Oklahoma, began commercial operations earlier this month following its completion by NextEra Energy Incorporated (NSYE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida).
The windfarm utilizes 125 General Electric wind turbines. Energy produced by the windfarm will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The electricity is enough to power 200,000 homes each year. Completion of the windfarm brings NextEra's Oklahoma wind portfolio to more than 1,000 MW.
Construction was completed by Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota), which hired more than 200 craft workers during the 10-month construction phase. The project had a total investment value of $500 million. General Electric (GE) (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) will be responsible for operations and maintenance.
