Sempra to Proceed Phase II of Port Arthur LNG Project - Sempra Energy (San Diego, California) has approved a $14 billion expansion of the Port Arthur liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Texas. ExxonMobil Starts Up Singapore Refining Unit - Exxon Mobil Corporation (Spring, Texas) has started production at new facilities at its Singapore oil refinery complex to produce base stocks from residue fuel, the company said on Tuesday, boosting the plant's intake of high-sulfur crude oil. The technology combines processes to convert fuel oil and other bottom-of-the-barrel crude products into higher-value lube base stocks and distillates, Exxon said in a statement. Azerbaijan's SOCAR to Buy Refiner Italiana Petroli - Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR (Baku) agreed on Tuesday to buy Italian refiner Italiana Petroli (IP) (Rome), securing control of one of Italy's largest petrol station networks. People close to the matter previously told Reuters that the seller, Italy's Brachetti Peretti family, was seeking an enterprise value of around 2.5 billion euros (US$2.95 billion) for IP. "This acquisition represents a significant milestone in expanding SOCAR's presence in the European energy market and reflects its commitment to strengthening bilateral economic and energy relations between Azerbaijan and Italy," SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf said in a statement.
