Tropical Storm Gordon Moves Quickly Across Gulf of Mexico, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Tropical Storm Gordon Moves Quickly Across Gulf of Mexico, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Attachment: Gordon2

Tropical Storm Gordon has developed quickly after crossing Southern Florida and expectations are for the storm to strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane when it makes landfall later today. Presuming Gordon reaches hurricane status at landfall, there are 49 industrial plants directly in the path of winds that are expected to reach 65 miles per hour (mph) or greater, and another 76 industrial plants that could get winds in excess of 25 mph. The largest power plant in the storm's path is the 900-megawatt (MW) Jack Watson Power Station in Gulfport, Mississippi. More than 125 off¬shore oil and gas platforms are in the storm's path, which represent 12% of the region's o¬ffshore crude oil production, and 17% of the region's gas processing capacity. Based on the storm's speed in moving across the Gulf of Mexico, platform shut-ins will likely be brief. Currently, no refinery or chemical plant shutdowns have been reported, and most seem unlikely, based on the storm's current status as a tropical storm.

Industrial Info's new Disaster Impact Tracker widgets can help you stay on track with the storm's path, and those industrial plants within its path. Utilize the Current Natural Disasters widget to quickly visualize and assess the specific areas of impact, and link directly to the storm within the Disaster Impact Tracker to identify the plants and units potentially requiring disaster relief equipment and services.
