Three Indonesian geothermal power plant projects with a total capacity of 140 megawatts (MW) failed to reach commercial operations this year due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and technical issues.
These include the 90-MW Rantau Dedap Geothermal Power Plant in the Muara Enim Regency, the 45-MW Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Station Unit 2 and the 5-MW Sokoria Geothermal Power Station Unit 1. These power plants are operated by PT Supreme Energy, PT. Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power and PT Sokoria Geothermal Indonesia, respectively.
The Indonesian government now hopes the projects will contribute to the nation's power capacity in 2021, when Indonesia's installed geothermal power capacity is estimated to be about 2,300 MW.
