Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 265-megawatt (MW) Three Cedars solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, which is located in Cedar City, Utah, achieved commercial operation last month following its completion by Dominion Resources Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) and SunEdison (Maryland Heights, Missouri). Dominion, which owns a majority interest in the project, engaged Mortenson Construction as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm to design and build the solar farm.
The project was originally owned and developed by SunEdison, but Dominion entered into an expanded partnership with SunEdison to acquire a 50% interest in the project. The energy generated from the project is enough to power over 40,000 homes and businesses. The project is located on over 2,000 acres. The power will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Corporation (NYSE:BRKA) (Omaha, Nebraska).
The solar plant took just over a year to complete. The project had a total investment value of $320 million. Swinerton Incorporated will be responsible for operation and maintenance.
