Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nestle Waters North America (Greenwich, Connecticut), a subsidiary of leading food and beverage company Nestle S.A. (OTC:NSRGY ) (Vevey, Switzerland), has decided not to carry on with its project to build a bottled-water-processing plant in Orwell, New York. According to a company official, the Oswego County site wasn't ideal as a primary source of water. The company is now considering other sites in the area.

It was reported that Nestle purchased a 450-acre farm in Oswego where it planned to construct the 1.5 million-gallon-a-day plant. Construction for the $100 million facility was scheduled to start in spring 2009 and be fully operational a year later. Industrial Info Resources detailed the scope of the project, tentative schedule and key contacts.

Even though claims from Nestle suggest that the considered site was not suitable for the project, it is important to point out that environmental group and local residents were against it. They were concerned that pumping so much water could have an impact on the Salmon River. The company is now envisaging testing other springs in the area.

In addition to this project, Industrial Info is monitoring 12 other active Nestle projects in the U.S. estimated at $742 million and is tracking 55 operational plants from the company in the U.S and Canada.

Nestle Waters North America is the nation's largest bottled-water company with many leading domestic and imported brands sold in the U.S. and Canada.
