Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (TAKREER) (United Arab Emirates) has awarded The Shaw Group Incorporated (NYSE:SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) a process license technology contract package. This will cover the provision of engineering services and licensing for the residue fluid catalytic cracking (RFCC) technology. The package will include four Axens (Rueil-Malmaison, France) technologies from a technology alliance comprising Axens, Shaw, Total S.A. (NYSE:TOT) (Paris) and the IFP FCC research center in Lyons, France. Shaw will also provide engineering services to integrate and coordinate 11 new process units from other technology licensors at the Ruwais Industrial Complex refinery site in the United Arab Emirates. The world's largest RFCC will form part of a major grassroot expansion program at Ruwais. Shaw's advanced light olefins recovery and purification technology is designed for maximum polymer grade propylene production.
The Axens technologies to be integrated into the expansion for TAKREER include an unsaturated liquefied petroleum gas treatment unit (Sulfrex) with 59,800 barrels per day (BBL/d); a 37,800-BBL/d C4-cut purification system (alkyfining); a 26,000-BBL/d butane isomerization unit; and a 40,930-BBL/d whole-cracked naphtha hydrotreater (Prime-G+) RFCC.
In the heart of basic system expansion will be the 127,100-BBL/d R2R RFCC unit containing the most advanced components in FCC technology. It will include impact feed injectors, an RS2 riser termination device, KFBE structured stripper packing, SCM selective cracking mixer and PetroRiser external riser for propylene production.
Axens, Shaw and Total developed the proprietary RFCC technology in the early 1990s and the alliance has since been awarded more than 40 FCC licenses. The Ruwais contract is the 156th license for the Prime-G+ technology for the production of ultra-low-sulfur gasoline.
