The strongest sector for SNC-Lavalin is Petroleum Refining, in which the company is involved in 46 projects totaling $31 billion. Second on the list is the Metals & Minerals Industry with 25 projects totaling $22 billion. The company is also involved with projects in Power, Industrial Manufacturing, Oil & Gas Production, and Transmission industries.

The majority of SNC-Lavalin's work, almost 34% according to total investment value (TIV), is focused on projects in Canada, although the company is well represented by projects in other countries, including the U.S., United Arab Emirates, India, Venezuela and Peru.

In Canada, Canadian Natural Resources Limited is completing and commissioning the $8.2 billion first phase of the Horizon Oil Sands Mine 70 kilometers northwest of Fort McMurray in Alberta. SNC-Lavalin provided engineering, procurement and construction services for the massive project. First reported by Industrial Info as the Mic Mac project in 2001, the TIV for the project has escalated from $1.6 billion in 2001 to the current $8.2 billion because of global increases in equipment and services costs.

SNC-Lavalin was recently awarded an engineering contract by Valero Energy for a scrubber system to reduce sulfur dioxide from a 73,000-barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracker unit.
