Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 143,400-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Milford Haven Refinery in Wales, operated by Murco Petroleum Limited (St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England) and owned by Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR) (El Dorado, Arkansas) has begun its restart process after a 71-day overhaul.
The shutdown began February 28 and entailed inspection, cleaning and maintenance. The downtime affected the 3,775-BBL/d crude vapour recovery unit; the 30,190-BBL/d hydrodesulfurization 1900 unit; the 24,910-BBL/d hydrodesulfurization 0300 unit; the 11,000-BBL/d reformer 0200 and the 5,500-BBL/d reformer 1200, among others. The entire facility was down for 71 days.
During the shutdown, upgrades were performed that increased plant capacity to 143,000 BBL/d from 108,000 BBL/d.
In a May 5 press release, Murphy Oil said: "Refining and marketing operations in the United Kingdom incurred a loss of $15.0 million in the first quarter 2010, compared to a loss of $3.8 million in the same quarter of 2009, with the decline primarily due to a combination of weaker refining results in the most recent quarter and downtime associated with a turnaround at the Milford Haven, Wales, refinery during a portion of the 2010 quarter."
Murphy Oil Corporation is an international oil and gas company that conducts business through several subsidiaries. The company produces oil and natural gas in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Malaysia, and performs exploration activities worldwide.
