Contractor Selected for NextEra's Red Mesa Windfarm
Pre-construction work will begin this fall on NextEra Energy LLC's estimated $215 million, 102.4-megawatt Red Mesa windfarm, which is to be in Cibola County, New Mexico.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pre-construction work will begin this fall on NextEra Energy LLC's (Juno Beach, Florida) Red Mesa windfarm. The estimated $215 million, 102.4-megawatt (MW) windfarm is to be in Cibola County, near Seboyeta, which is 60 miles northeast of Grants, New Mexico.
The Red Mesa windfarm will utilize either 68 General Electric wind turbine/generators of 1.5 MW each, or 64 such turbines of 1.6 MW each. Individual turbines will be connected with a medium-voltage power collection system and communication network. Utility-scale windfarms must have access to transmission lines to transport power to the consumers. Sometimes developers might be obligated to install extra equipment or control systems to meet the standards set by the operator of a transmission line.
Wanzek Construction (Fargo, North Dakota) has been awarded the contract to construct the Red Mesa Windfarm. Construction is scheduled to begin in early spring of 2011, with completion expected at the end of 2011.
