Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the successful completion of the rotor running test for Unit 6 of Guodian Baoji No.2 Power Plant Expansion Project on December 10, 2011, the unit successfully achieved the first grid connection on December 14.
During the rotor-running test, the steam turbine successfully operated under 3,000 rpm of rated speed the first time. Various indicators, including vibration of the shaft system and temperature of the bearing segments were of excellent level. Through the close cooperation of the parties involved, the first grid connection for the unit was successfully carried out in the early morning of December 14. "This has created a favorable condition for implementation of the on-grid test, as well as the 168-hour trial operation in the next stage," said NWPCG in its announcement.
Guodian Baoji No.2 Power Plant, located in the Changqing Industrial Park of Fengxiang County, Baoji City, is jointly owned by China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) (65%) and Shaanxi Provincial Investment Group Company Limited (Xi'an, Shaanxi) (35%). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 4,520 megawatts (MW). Of which, four 300-MW coal-fired units were built in Phase I. Phase I construction began in July 1996 and all four units were commissioned in February 2001. The Phase II expansion involves construction of two 660-MW supercritical indirect air-cooled, coal-fired units. Construction of the project began in August 2008. The first unit was commissioned in January 2011.
As an important power source support in the direct current connection between the 750-kilovolt grid of northwest power grid and the Sichuan-Chongqing grid, the power plant is preparing for the construction of two 1,000 MW coal-fired units in Phase III.
