California is Developing a 28.6% Increase in Geothermal Power Generation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The United States has over 2,900 megawatts of operational geothermal power generation, of which California accounts for more than 89%. The State of California, known for its strict environmental rules, currently has over 18,000 megawatts of operational renewable energy generation (biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, solar, and wind). Operational geothermal generation in California consists of 70 geothermal units at twelve power plants producing about 2,600 megawatts of power. There are another 20 units under development that will produce a combined capacity of an additional 744 megawatts an increase of 28.6%, in geothermal power generation. Five of the proposed units are at three existing operational or closed geothermal power plants and the other fifteen units will be at ten new grassroot sites. One plant that is being restarted is US Renewable Group’s Bottle Rock Geothermal Power Plant in Sonoma County, near Geyserville, California.
