Summary
Petrobras surpassed its oil, hydrocarbons and commercial production targets for 2025. Volumes are expected to increase this year as the company continues to deploy new FPSOs.Records Surpassed
Petrobras (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) surpassed its annual production record by 0.5 percentage points in 2025, reaching oil output of 2.4 million barrels per day (BBL/d), about 11% more than the volumes seen in 2024.Meanwhile, total oil and gas production also beat 2025's goals by 2.8 percentage points to close at 2.99 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/d), which is 11% higher year on year.
Overall, the company's commercial production totalled 2.62 million BOE/d, 0.9 percentage points above the 2025 target.
Pre-salt production volumes have hit new records, representing 82% of the total flows and accounting for 2.45 million BOE/d of Petrobras' output.
Petrobras-operated production, including barrels from its partners, reached 3.70 million BOE/d in 2025.
Multiple FPSOs
The solid performance was the result of the startup of new platforms deployed in 2024 and 2025, such as the Almirante Tamandare floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) at the Buzios field and the Alexandre de Gusmao FPSO at the Mero field. The Almirante Tamandare FPSO reached a record new output in 2025 with volumes of 240,000 BBL/d in November and December, making it the highest-producing platform in Brazil.
Thanks to this strong performance, the nation's Buzios field reached an operated production of over 1 million BOE/d across its six platforms. Additionally, P-78, the latest platform deployed at Buzios, began production at the field on December 31.
Throughout 2025, the Marechal Duque de Caxias FPSO at the Mero field reached its production peak, while the Maria Quiteria FPSO in the Jubarte field, Anita Garibaldi FPSO at Marlim and the Anna Nery FPSO at Voador continued their ramp-up.
Updated Targets
For 2026, Petrobras has set a commercial oil and gas production of 2.8 million BOE/d, with oil volumes of 2.5 million BBL/d with a +/- 4% variation. Pre-salt volumes are expected to also remain at 82% of the total share, while total production is projected at 3.1 million BOE/d and a operated output of 4.5 million BOE/d.Petrobras' hydrocarbon production is a long way from stopping; the company forecasts deploying one more FPSO in 2026 and another seven by 2030. Beyond 2030, the company is also considering deploying another 10 platforms.
