DACH Region Ramps Up Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling

This could be a boon for Germany's green transition, as it looks to diversify its supply of the materials needed to build green technologies like electric cars and wind turbines.

Since 2021, most lithium extracted in Germany has been used to manufacture lithium-ion batteries.

Germany recycles 1,500 metric tons of batteries each year. Lithium-ion batteries are 95% recyclable. Lithium-ion batteries hold their value beyond the life of the battery, allowing recycling facilities to reclaim materials such as high-value anode precious metals like cobalt, nickel and lithium.
