Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dyno Nobel is selling off its fertilizer arm as the company focuses on its global explosives business. After detailed evaluation, approximately 2 million tons per year of domestic fertilizer products will be lost from the Australian market as Dyno Nobel's Phosphate Hill, Geelong and Gibson Island (now closed) facilities will cease operations.
The Geelong site's Single Super Phosphate (SSP) operation will have its final production this October and will be transitioning to an import facility. The Phosphate Hill site will shut its ammonium phosphate fertilizer complex by September 2026 unless an agreed sale is reached by March 2026. Both sites will undertake remediation works to restore the site to a safe, functional and usable state.

Australia once controlled its domestic fertilizer supply chain, from raw material sourcing to domestic manufacturing to distribution, but the future is now transforming the Australian fertilizer market into an import-to-distribution model. The high price of domestic gas made local manufacturing suffer, making Australia 100% reliant on imported urea and soon on ammonium phosphate.
