Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GE Vernova Incorporated (NYSE:GEV) (Boston, Massachusetts) plans to invest about $600 million in its U.S. facilities over the next two years, as part of a $9 billion global capital-spending, research and development effort. The investments cover a wide range of gas-powered, renewable and nuclear needs, with the largest share going to gas-turbine development. Industrial Info is tracking more than $11.5 billion worth of active and proposed projects across the U.S. featuring GE Vernova's services, more than 70% of which is attributed to capital-spending projects with at least a 70% likelihood of beginning construction as currently scheduled.

About half of the total investment--almost $300 million--is slated for GE Vernova's Gas Power business and a build-out of its heavy-duty gas turbines. More than $160 million is destined for the company's gas turbine plant in Greenville, South Carolina, to support capacity growth, efficiency improvements and new testing methods for hydrogen fuel. This marks GE Vernova's single largest investment since it spun off from General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston) in April 2024, according to a company press release.
GE Vernova's Gas Power business also plans to invest upwards of $50 million at its equipment plant in Schenectady, New York, where it already is considering a proposed manufacturing expansion that would boost production of its H65 and H84 generators. These products "require the most advanced processes to manufacture the stator bars and stator core system, and accompany the company's most efficient HA gas turbines," according to GE Vernova.

The second-largest chunk of the investment, nearly $100 million, is set for facilities that manufacture GE Vernova's onshore wind-generation equipment. The company's announcement made no mention of U.S. offshore generation, which is facing steeper odds for continued development under the new Trump administration. But 178 of its turbines are to be used in one of the largest onshore projects under construction in the U.S.: American Electric Power Company Incorporated's (NASDAQ:AEP) (AEP) (Columbus, Ohio) 598.4-megawatt (MW), $990 million Wagon Wheel Windfarm in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, which kicked off in July. GE Hitachi, which is GE Vernova's nuclear business, is benefiting from a renewed interest in U.S.-based nuclear generation. More than $50 million is marked for Hitachi's nuclear reactor plant in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is designing the fuel design, a critical component to the company's BWRX-300 small modular reactor. "This investment also seeks to expand automation at the plant, which has been manufacturing fuel since 1968 and serves much of the U.S. boiling water reactor fleet, strongly positioning it for the future as the demand for nuclear energy increases globally, particularly as several U.S. utilities restart retired plants," GE Vernova said in the announcement.
Earlier this week, GE Vernova announced that it has awarded a contract to BWX Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:BWXT) (Lynchburg, Virginia) to manufacture the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for the first BWRX-300, which is to be constructed at Ontario Power Generation's (Toronto, Ontario) Darlington Nuclear Power Station in Bowmanville, Ontario.
