Marathon is in the process of restarting the 140,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit 3 (FCCU) at its 437,000-BBL/d Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, Texas, which shut down on July 9 for undisclosed reasons. The unit is expected to resume normal rates within 24 to 48 hours.
Marathon remains on schedule for 30-day planned maintenance on the 11,500-BBL/d Hydrofluoric Alkylation (HF Alky) Unit and four additional units, to begin September 3, at its 210,000-BBL/d Robinson, Illinois, refinery.
HollyFrontier remains on schedule for a 45-day plant-wide maintenance turnaround in early October at its 100,000-BBL/d Navajo Refining Complex in Artesia, New Mexico.
International
Total Refining & Chemicals continues with a shutdown of the 205,500-BBL/d Crude D11 Unit and 27,700-BBL/d DSV 8 (Vacuum) Unit at its 205,600-BBL/d Gonfreville Refinery in France, following a fire in the D11 on December 14, 2019. The remaining processing units continue to run at reduced rates of approximately 50%, which depend on stockpile deliveries from sister plants nationwide. The refinery is expected to resume normal operations by the end of September.
Kashima Oil Company was forced to shut down the 168,000-BBL/d Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at its 203,100-BBL/d Kashima Refinery in Japan due to an issue with an electrical room on July 6. Five units, and associated units, have also shut down as a sympathy outage. An inspection could take several days, and unplanned repairs on the electric room are not estimated to take place until July 31. A final decision on restarting the units has not been made at this time.
Rompetrol Rafinare SA continues with an unplanned plant-wide shutdown of its 105,000-BBL/d Petromidia Refinery in Romania following an explosion on July 2. A damage assessment is still underway, and a restart date is undisclosed at this time.
