Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that the 80-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 at the Muara Laboh Geothermal Power Plant in West Sumatra is slated for completion in 2027. The project, which is being developed by PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh (SEML), recently reached financial close, supported by international financiers including the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and several Japanese banks.
The geothermal plant expansion, which also includes a planned 65-MW Unit 3, is expected to attract a total investment of nearly US$992 million. The development is part of Indonesia's broader partnership with Japan under the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) framework and follows the signing of a power purchase agreement with Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN) (Jakarta, Indonesia) in December 2024.
