Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Idemitsu Kosan Company Limited (Tokyo, Japan) has decided to restructure its Chiba Refinery in Ichihara, Japan.
The ethylene unit will be closed permanently by March 2027 as the Japanese government asks refinery companies to realize increased carbon-neutrality and circular economies.
Following the decision, some units related to the ethylene unit stopped operations permanently and have been under demolition since May 2023, while the construction of a recycled hydrocarbon oil unit was begun in September 2024 to produce recycled hydrocarbon oil from waste plastic.
Idemitsu Kosan Company Limited is also planning to construct a new 29.85 million-gallon-per-year sustainable aviation fuel unit that will start operating by 2028.
