Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As per the National Energy Masterplan (NEMP), Nigeria is undertaking a major transformation of its energy sector to address persistent electricity shortages, expand energy access and support sustainable economic growth. The government has established the NEMP as a framework for coordinating long-term energy-sector development, while implementation is being supported through initiatives such as the National Energy Fund (NE-FUND) to mobilize public and private investment in renewable energy and new energy infrastructure.
Under IRENA's Transforming Energy Scenario (TES), Nigeria could reach approximately 62 gigawatts (GW) of total installed power-generation capacity by 2030, with 77% from renewable sources. IRENA also specifically projects around 32 GW of solar capacity by 2030, highlighting solar's central role in Nigeria's renewable-energy transition. These ambitions point to significant opportunities across utility-scale renewable generation, transmission and grid infrastructure, energy storage and other enabling power infrastructure.
Industrial info Resources data show 113 renewable power projects worth US$22.75 billion In Nigeria.
