U.S. Grassroot Project Completions Total $17 Billion for 2015

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Grassroot U.S. projects worth a total of $17.35 billion were set for completion in 2015, according to Industry Info's project database. The projects include a polysilicon manufacturing facility in Tennessee and a massive solar power plant in Nevada, among others.

The Southeast Region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee), had completions set this year for 19 projects valued at $3.44 billion. Wacker-Chemie GmbH's (Munich, Germany) $2.4 billion polysilicon manufacturing plant in Charleston, Tennessee tops the list in the region. The project was earlier delayed for 18 months due to market conditions. The plant will produce 20,000 tonnes per year of hyperpure polycrystalline silicon for use in solar panels and electronics. W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company (Philadelphia, Mississippi), Wright Brothers Construction Company (Charleston, Tennessee) and Atwell LLC (Southfield, Michigan) served on the project. The Rocky Mountains Region (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming) reports expected completions for nine projects totaling $2.22 billion. Standing head and shoulders above the rest in the region in value is SolarReserve LLC's (Santa Monica, California) $967 million, 110-megawatt (MW) Crescent Dunes concentrated solar power project in Tonopah, Nevada. Now in the commissioning stage, the facility will use a heliostat mirror field and solar receiver to provide steam to a 110-MW Alstom steam turbine generator.
