Philippine Steel Mill Licenses to Be Reviewed, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Philippine Steel Mill Licenses to Be Reviewed, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Attachment: Philippine Steel 02102020

The Philippines' Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is reviewing global licenses of several steelmakers in the Philippines as it ramps up its efforts to curb substandard steel products circulating the market. Local steelmakers, which includes Steel Asia Manufacturing Corporation, Henro Steel Corporation, and Somico Steel Mill Corporation, are shortlisted for inspection as their steel products failed the Philippine National Standard test during spot-checking. DTI kicks off its campaign this year to reduce substandard steel products currently on the market due to illegally installed induction furnaces and an influx of steel bars from Vietnam and China. See map below for operational steel mills in the Philippines.
