Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Site preparation is beginning this month for the San Antonio El Sitio windfarm. Work is being performed by Central Comercializadora de Energía Eléctrica S.A. (Guatemala City), which is a subsidiary of Centrans Energy Services Incorporated (Guatemala City); Central Comercializadora de Energía Eléctrica S.A. (Guatemala City); and Vestas México (México City), which is a subsidiary of Vestas Wind Systems AS (OTC:VWDRY) (Randers, Dinamarca).
The windfarm will be located 20.6 kilometers from Guatemala City, in Villa Canales. It will have a generating capacity of 48 megawatts (MW) to supply the local grid.
The windfarm is equipped with 16 V112 Vestas (Mexico City) wind turbine generator sets, each with a generating capacity of 3 MW. Vestas will be in charge of construction, supplies, installation, assembly of the wind generators, and construction of the park. The commissioning of the windfarm is scheduled for April 2015, according to Vestas.
San Antonio El Sitio Park will be the first windfarm in the Renewable Energies Program of Guatemala. Construction also will begin soon for the 21-MW San Vicente Pacaya windfarm in Escuintla, which should be operational by 2015.
