IIR Top Chemical Processing News Today: March 19th 2020

INEOS is on schedule to perform planned maintenance on the 1.7 billion-pound-per-year Olefins 2 ethylene unit at its Alvin (Chocolate Bayou), Texas, site. The major 90-day turnaround is expected to begin April 12, but could be postponed due to COVID-19 or the timing of capital work that will be tied in during the outage.

Formosa Plastics slightly delayed its 90-day planned turnaround of the 1.65 billion-pound-per-year Olefins 1 ethylene unit at its Point Comfort, Texas, plant. The unit is expected to shut down on April 1 and restart June 29. Company management is currently discussing the status of the turnaround and if it will need to be rescheduled due to COVID-19.

Formosa Plastics completed planned maintenance at its 878 million-pound-per-year high density polyethylene (HDPE) II unit, on March 12, in Point Comfort, Texas. The unit was shut down on February 22 for a 20-day turnaround.

International
Versalis SpA has rescheduled the completion of major, planned plant-wide maintenance at its Priolo Gargallo Complex in Italy. Maintenance work on the ethylene, benzene and cumene units was completed on March 7, and the 1.6-billion-pound-per-year ethylene unit is expected to resume operations by end of March.

Egyptian Propylene & Polypropylene Company continues with a 30-day planned turnaround of the 771.6 million-pound-per-year propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and 771.6 million-pound-per-year polypropylene (PP) units, which began February 27, at its Port Said Complex in Egypt. Expectations are to complete repairs and restart the units by March 27.

JG Summit Olefins Corporation restarted the 705 million-pound-per-year ethylene unit, and four other units, on March 15 at its Batangas Petrochemical Complex in the Philippines, after a 162-day turnaround that began on October 6, 2019.
