Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--What's the No. 1 county in the nation for planned industrial project starts in 2014? Louisiana's Calcasieu Parish. Industrial firms have lined up 63 projects in the parish, totaling about $19 billion, that are scheduled to begin construction during 2014.

Calcasieu Parish, with land area of about 1 million square miles, has a population of more than 194,000 (2012 U.S. Census). The Port of Lake Charles, 34 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, has deep sea vessel access and recently was recognized as the nation's 13th busiest port, based on cargo tonnage.

Due to its proximity to Gulf Coast hydrocarbon reserves, Calcasieu Parish is home to one of the nation's largest petrochemical complexes, featuring numerous gas processing plants, oil refineries and petrochemical plants owned by companies including CITGO Petroleum Corporation, Firestone Polymers LLC, Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) and Westlake Petrochemicals Corporation (NYSE:WLK).

Boardwalk Louisiana Midstream LLC (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP (NYSE:BWP) (Houston, Texas), is planning to begin construction on several facilities in Calcasieu Parish in 2014, including a $120 million LPG propane and butane export terminal and a $500 million NGL fractionation plant. Boardwalk Louisiana Midstream operates NGL and ethylene pipelines and storage facilities in Plaquemine and Sulphur, Louisiana.

In addition to the $19 billion in projects scheduled to begin construction this year, there are an additional 40 projects totaling $24 billion scheduled beyond 2014, according to Industrial Info's Industrial Project Database. For details contact Industrial Info at 1-800-762-3361.
