Top 20 Industrial Project Spending Counties for 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). In a recent analysis of active U.S. industrial projects scheduled to begin construction in 2007, Industrial Info has identified the Top 20 Industrial Project Spending Counties List. The top 20 counties have more than $57 billion in capital and maintenance project spending from 345 different projects, representing about 26% of the total planned project spending planned for 2007. Texas is the best-represented state on the list with four counties making the top 20, including Harris, Jefferson, McLennan, and Robertson counties.

The list has changed dramatically since last year, as only five of last year’s top 20 counties remain on the list for 2007. For details see related April 26, 2006, new article - Top Counties for Industrial Project Spending in 2006 – 2Q06 Update.

Hudson County, New Jersey has jumped to the top of the list, mainly due to a $6 billion planned expansion for the Hoboken Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) expansion project, which is aimed at extending transportation access between Manhattan, New York and New Jersey via a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River. It is possible that the project could start construction late this year. In addition to the rail project, there are several small projects and outages planned by companies like PSEG Power, LLC and International Matex Tank Terminals.

Second on the list for 2007 is Ascension Parish, Louisiana with thirteen projects totaling about $5.1 billion. Led by the massive $5 billion synfuel coal gasification project, Ascension Parrish, Louisiana, also has a slew of Chemical Processing Industry (CPI) projects planned by companies such as Huntsman Corporation, Shell Chemical Company, Williams Company, and Rubicon to name a few. CPI projects in Ascension Parrish include a major $60 million new unit addition and small $1-3 million unit turnaround projects.
