Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Argentine investment group Pampa Holding S.A. (Buenos Aires) plans to invest $100 million in the expansion of the Central Termica Guemes thermal power plant in Salta Province, Argentina. A 98-megawatt General Electric combustion turbine will be installed at the plant. According to plant officials, the plant has already received the LMS100 turbine and will begin operation in August.
In the second phase, the existing simple-cycle unit equipped with three Skoda steam turbines will be converted into combined-cycle mode by adding a heat recovery steam generator. In addition, Pampa Holding will implement a black start-up so that in case the system collapses, the new generating unit can more quickly meet demand in order to facilitate the start-up of the Skoda turbines.
