Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to Charles Barkley, the Houston Rockets' 22-game winning streak is the second-greatest basketball feat since he started playing in the NBA in 1984. What's the first? The Chicago Bulls winning 70 games in a season in 1995. Unfortunately, the Rockets they came up against the stifling defense of the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night, ending their two-month winning streak. But that's where the bad news ends, especially if you are an equipment or services provider to the industrial market in Texas.

Of that total, 30 projects in Texas totaling more than $2.1 billion have been verified as having begun construction activities in 2008. In San Antonio, Texas, AGE Refining Incorporated is planning to resume construction of naphtha/diesel HT & Reformer unit additions at a cost of about $35 million. Construction was halted last year when problems with a general contractor arose.
Five miles southwest of Trent, Texas, on White Flat Road, Babcock & Brown LP (Houston, Texas) has begun site preparation for a $180 million windfarm. The windfarm will involve the erection of 67 steel towers with General Electric wind turbine generators to produce about 100 megawatts (MW). Mechanical erection should begin later this summer. The largest project to get underway this year in Texas is also a windfarm. Hackberry Wind LLC, a subsidiary of Renewable Energy Systems Americas Incorporated (Austin, Texas), has begun site preparation for a $350 million windfarm near Albany, Texas. The Hackberry windfarm will require the erection of 72 steel towers with 2.3 MW Siemens MKII wind turbine generator sets to produce a total of 166 MW.
Other states on the top 10 list for 2008 are California, Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Florida and Kansas. The top 10 states account for 47% of the planned project spending in the U.S. for 2008.
