Contracts Awarded for $200 Million Automotive Stamping Plant in Mississippi

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Toyota Auto Body Company Limited (Erlanger, Kentucky) has selected Shimizu Corporation (Guntown, Mississippi) to provide general construction services and SSOE Incorporated (Toledo, Ohio) to provide architectural services for a $200 million grassroot automotive stamping plant in Baldwyn, Mississippi.

Plans are to construct an approximately 520,000-square-foot building on a 100-acre site to produce stamped, body weld and plastic parts for the Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America's plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi. (TMMS). Site preparation began in March 2008 with building construction anticipated to begin in May. Overall completion is slated for spring 2010.

Approximately 400 jobs will be created initially. The new plant will operate under the name Auto Parts Manufacturing Mississippi. TAB was the first company announced to supply parts to the new Blue Springs plant.

Toyoda Gosei is getting ready to begin renovations of an existing building in Batesville, Mississippi. The new plant is estimated to cost $19 million and will supply interior and exterior components for the plant. Toyoda is negotiating with a general contractor at this time.
