AEP Completes $85 Million Expansion at Oklahoma Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--AEP-Public Service Company of Oklahoma (Tulsa, Oklahoma), a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus, Ohio), has completed construction and is set to commence full commercial start-up of an $85 million, 170-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Southwestern Power Station in Washita, Oklahoma.

Construction for the project began in June 2007 and was completed earlier this year. Full commercial operation for the expansion is set to commence by the end of this month. The project consisted of installing two 85 MW, dual-fueled GE Energy MS7001EA combustion turbine generators to the existing facility. The new units will feature state-of-the-art emissions technology, such as dry low NOx burners to reduce NOx emissions. Both units will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration, generating power when energy demands are at their highest (during the summer and winter months) for AEP customers.

Wood Group Power Solutions of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a subsidiary of Wood Group (Houston, Texas) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
