Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Energia del Sur S.A. (EdS) (Chubut- Argentina) recently announced that it is nearing completion of a combined-cycle conversion project at its Comodoro Rivadavia power plant.
The plant, with a current power output of 77 megawatts (MW), is reaching the final phase of the project, which began construction in August 2006. A new steam turbine will be added to the two existing 38.5 MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) MS 6001B combustion turbines, which have been in operation since 1996.
The project, due for completion in August 2008, will add 60 MW of new high-efficiency capacity through the addition of a 60 MW BBC steam turbine generator powered by the waste heat recovered by two Vogt heat recovery steam generators coming from the two existing gas turbines.
The plant is located in Comodoro Rivadavia in the Patagonian province of Chubut and serves the isolated power grid based on Comodoro Rivadavia. When fully operational, the facility will reach a total power output of 137 MW.
EdS is owned by Patagonia Energy, which in turn is owned by two shareholders: Basic Energy Limited and Rurelec PLC.
