Valero Energy Selects Contractors for $200 Million Hydrogen Project at California Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) has selected contractors to construct a $200 million, 100-million-standard-cubic-feet-per-day hydrogen plant at the company's Benicia refinery in California. CB&I (Tyler, Texas) has been selected to perform engineering, procurement and fabrication services for the plant. Construction is expected to begin in early 2009 and with completion slated for early 2010.

Valero has several others projects that will be completed in early 2010. The company has chosen Burns & Mc Donnell (Kansas City, Missouri) to perform engineering and procurement services for an $80 million, 3,800-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) butamer unit. In addition, SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC) (Montreal, Quebec) has been chosen to perform engineering services for a scrubber system to reduce sulfur dioxide from a 73,000-BBL/d fluid catalytic cracker unit and 28,000-BBL/d fluid coker unit. Performance Mechanical Incorporated (Pittsburg, California) will perform construction services for the hydrogen unit and the butamer unit.
