Grand Cayman Island's North Sound Power Station Undergoing Maintenance

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--North Sound Power Station, located on Grand Cayman Island, is currently undergoing annual maintenance on one of its two 8.5-megawatt (MW) Stork engines, which is fueled by fuel oil. In addition to the Stork engines, the facility owns two small combustion turbines and another 12 engines manufactured by Merley, MaK, Man B&W AG and Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT). According to plant officials, the unit will be back online by the end of the month.

Caribbean Utilities Company (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) owns and operates the 119-MW North Sound Power Station, which is the sole supplier of electricity to Grand Cayman Island. The other two islands of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, are supplied by another electricity company, Cayman Brac Power & Light.

The Cayman Islands have an installed generating capacity of 136.6 MW with a peak load of around 91 MW. They use diesel generating units and supply electricity to over 24,000 customers.
