Duke Energy Begins Commercial Operation of $120 Million Windfarm in Texas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Duke Energy Generation Services (Cincinnati, Ohio), a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), has begun commercial operation of the $120 million, 58.8-megawatt (MW) Ocotillo Windfarm project, which completed construction this fall, near Big Spring, Texas.

Construction began in February. The facility's first turbine was commissioned in September, and Duke commenced full commercial operation in late October. The project consisted of constructing 28 2.1-MW Suzlon Energy (BSE:532667) (Pune, India) S88 model wind turbine generators in the Big Spring area. The power generated by the new project will supply enough renewable energy for nearly 36,000 Texas homes.
