Langdon Wind Starts Up 40-Megawatt Phase II of North Dakota Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Langdon Wind LLC, a joint venture of FPL Group Incorporated (NYSE:FPL) (Juno Beach, Florida) and Otter Tail Power Company (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), began full commercial operation this month on Phase II of the $70 million, 40-megawatt (MW) Langdon Windfarm in Osnabrock, North Dakota. The project, which is FPL's fifth in North Dakota, began construction during the summer and was complete by the fall. Phase I has been operational since January 12.

Phase II involved the installation of 27 additional 1.5-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) sle model wind turbines to the existing site. When added to the site they will bring the facility's nameplate capacity to a total of 200 MW. Ownership of the windfarm is split between FPL Energy (159 MW) and Otter Tail (40.5 MW). Minnkota Power Cooperative Incorporated (Grand Forks, North Dakota) has a 25-year power-purchase agreement for 99 MW from the windfarm.

Wanzek Construction (Fargo, North Dakota) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for Phase II.
