Fox Islands Wind Prepares to Build 4.5-Megawatt Windfarm in Maine

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fox Islands Wind LLC (Vinalhaven, Maine) is preparing to build a 4.5-megawatt (MW) windfarm in Vinalhaven, Maine, off North Haven Road. Fox Islands Wind, with the assistance of consultant Acentech Incorporated (Cambridge, Massachusetts), has received a permit.

Fox Islands Wind will provide the energy generated from the windfarm to the local transmission and distribution utility Fox Islands Electric Cooperative (Vinalhaven). GE Energy, a division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), will provide three of the 1.5-MW sle wind turbine/generators for the project. Fox Island Winds selected Cianbro Construction, a subsidiary of Cianbro Companies (Pittsfield, Maine) to handle construction. Cianbro is expected to commence construction in June, and the windfarm is expected to begin operation by October.
