Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Gulf Power Company (Pensacola, Florida), a subsidiary of The Southern Company (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia), is making detailed designs on a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system to be installed on Unit 6 at the Crist Power Station in Pensacola.
The smaller units (4 and 5 at 93 megawatts (MW) each) are not being considered for SCRs, while the 578-MW Unit 7 is already equipped with low-nitrogen-oxide burners and an SCR, which was installed in 2005.
Construction for the SCR in Unit 6 is scheduled to kick off in early to mid-2010 with completion set for 2012. The Southern Company will provide engineering and construction services.
