Researched by Protel Associates Limited in alliance with Industrial Info Europe (Galway, Ireland)--Suffolk County Council has developed a scheme, with assistance from engineering consultancy firm Entec UK Limited (Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom), for an approximately £200 million ($284 million) energy-from-waste facility in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich.
The new facility will be designed to handle 250,000 tons per year of municipal waste, which will be incinerated using traditional moving hearth boilers to generate 20 megawatts of electricity for the grid. SITA UK Limited (Maidenhead, United Kingdom), a subsidiary of Suez Environnement SA (EPA:SEV) (Paris) and Veolia Environmental Services plc (London), part of Veolia Environnement (NYSE:VE), (Paris) are currently tendering for the 28-year build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) contract, which will be awarded in August 2010. Onsite work is scheduled to begin late 2011.
Equipment requirements will include: solids handling, fluid handling, weighing, vessels, steam generators, boilers, condensation systems, feedwater plant, ash handling, control and instrumentation, flue stack, emissions monitoring and control, effluent plant, and steel-framed and clad building.
