Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Usina Monte Alegre (Mina Gerais, Brazil) will expand cane-crushing capacity and add two power units at Angelica Ethanol Plant (Mato Grosso do Sul), which also will begin producing sugar in 2010.
Angelica Plant's cane-crushing capacity will be increased to 4,000 metric tons per day to supply a new sugar production unit. This unit is expected to be operational in 2010 and will have a sugar output capacity of 1,500 tons per day. Also, two new turbogenerators of 40 megawatts (MW) each will be added to the existing 40-MW powerhouse capacity. The energy produced will be used to supply the factory's needs while the overrun will be sold to the grid. The cogeneration units are expected to be operational by 2010.
Usina Monte Alegre is a subsidiary of Adecoagro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), which plans to build two other facilities in Ivinhema and Amandina (Mato Grosso do Sul), with similar capacities as Angelica. The capital investment raises US$960 million and will increase Adecoagro's total cane-crushing capacity to 11 million per year. Ivinhema is expected to be operational by 2014 and Amandina by 2015.
Adecoagro was created in 2002 and is devoted to food and renewable energy production. It operates in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. In 2006, they entered in the agroenegy business with Usina Monte Alegre and its Angelica Ethanol Plant.
