Total's Donges Refinery Planning Turnaround for 2012

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Total S.A.'s (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) 230,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Donges refinery, located in the Pays de la Loire region of France, is scheduled to undergo an overhaul in the first quarter of 2012.

Created in 1933 by Total S.A. and reconstructed in 1947 after it was destroyed during the Second World War, the Donges refinery is one of the six refineries Total leads in France and the second-largest refinery in the country, after the 337,000-BBL/d Total Gonfreville refinery.

The turnaround, which will entail mainly cleaning and inspection, will be carried out in March 2012 and will concern two of the three main production areas of the refinery, known as Group 1 and 2, with 11 units in all. Units are expected to be brought offline for a non-production period of 45 days.

Separately, on February 22, 2009, the eight units from Group 3 were shut down for 60 non-production days as part of a modernisation program that started in 2005. As a result of this plan, the refinery has added a new Gasoline Hydrotreater (DGO2) and a Tail Gas Treater (Prime G).
