Griffin Energy's Second Power Plant in Collie Completed

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Transfield Services finished construction on Griffin Energy's (Perth, Australia) Bluewaters II power station last week. The Bluewaters facilities have been designed to be developed in a modular fashion, to grow in step with power demand growth.

Located within the Coolangatta Industrial Estate, approximately 4 kilometers northeast of the town of Collie in Western Australia, the power plant is on the state's main electricity grid.

The Bluewaters Power Stations comprise two coal-fired, base-load generators, each capable of producing 208 MW. The total generating capacity of the Bluewaters site is 416 MW, and there are plans to expand it to approximately 830 MW. The coal is supplied directly from Griffin's coal mine, as Collie Coal is relatively clean, with low levels of sulphur and zero methane content.

Plant manager Paul Hanson said that Bluewaters II was completed on schedule for owner Griffin Energy. The site is operated on a 50:50 basis by Transfield Services and WorleyParsons Limited (ASX:WOR) (Sydney, Australia).
