Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). BP (NYSE: BP) (Chicago, Illinois) plans to spend an estimated $20 million to install two package boilers at its Wando, South Carolina, PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) plant (Plant 1011877).
They have tentative capital approval and will be selecting an engineering and construction firm soon. Construction is estimated to begin first or second quarter 2004 and should be completed by the end of the 2004, or early 2005. (PEC 16001315).
BP is also working on a Unit 1 PTA debottleneck that has been postponed until 2005 or 2006. The expansion will increase the 1.3 million metric ton per year production capacity of PTA by 160,000 million metric tons per year. The debottleneck was nearly 10 percent complete in 2001, when the project was put on hold.
BP is internationally headquartered in London, England and is one of the world's leading petrochemical, oil, gas and energy companies and one of the third largest petrochemical companies in the world. They operate large scale manufacturing plants in the United States, Europe and Asia and produce ethylene, propylene, polypropylene, high-density polyethylene, paraxylene, and PTA chemical products.
