Texas Chemical Producer Select Contractor for Major Expansion

Once engineering and scheduling are complete later this fall, construction could begin early next year

Released Thursday, July 15, 2004

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). EVAL Company of America (Pasadena, Texas), a subsidiary of Kuraray Company Limited (Osaka, Japan) has selected JGC Corporation (Yokohama, Japan) as the engineering and construction contractor for its plans to double the production of EVOH (ethylene vinyl alcohol) at their plant located in Pasadena, Texas. Industrialinfo.com has been tracking plans for this expansion since EVAL Company completed a retrofit of their No. 3 EVOH line in the late 90's.

JGC's project team currently resides in Japan, and they have selected S&B Engineers & Constructors Limited (Houston, Texas) as their joint venture engineer to assist with project management and scope development. Although project teams have been assembled for this estimated $150 million expansion project, the release of capital funds and the authorization to proceed with engineering is not expected for another month or so. Once engineering and scheduling are complete later this fall, construction could begin early next year, with completion anticipated in the spring of 2006.

EVOH is used to produce high-performance resins with excellent gas-barrier properties that enable it to eliminate contamination from oxygen or other gases and vapors. Demand for EVOH resin and film continues to rise as its popularity in automotive applications and consumer products, including cosmetic and pharmaceutical packaging, increases.
