Butler Construction Company, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, was awarded the general construction contract for a $28.5 million distribution center expansion in Williamsburg, Virginia. Plans are to expand the existing 2.2 million square foot building by constructing a one million square foot expansion adjacent to the existing center, on a 243-acre site. Site preparation started in October 2004, with building construction expected Spring 2005. Overall completion is slated for early summer of 2006.
Wal-Mart Stores, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, is currently listed as the world's #1 retailer, with more than 4,800 stores, which includes 1,475 discount stores, 1,750 combination discount and grocery stores and 540 warehouse stores (SAM's Club). 75% of their stores are in the United States.
