Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Kraft Foods Global Incorporated (NYSE:KFT) (Northfield, Illinois), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Altria Group Incorporated (NYSE:MO) (New York, New York) is planning to expand its Planters Peanuts plant in Suffolk, Virginia.
In 1913, Planters began as a small nut and chocolate factory in Suffolk. Through the years, the company has expanded buildings and currently sits on about 38 acres. Now, across the street from the plant, a new access road is being installed for what the company is calling a new buffer warehouse for storage of finished products. Plans call for the construction of a new 56,000 square foot building that will act as a new product storage warehouse and distribution center.
The company selected United Insulated Structures Corporation (Berkeley, Illinois) as the general contractor for this estimated $3.5 million project. The foundation for the building is expected to be poured this week. Construction is on a fast-track building schedule and is scheduled to be completed by June 2005.
Planters became a part of Kraft when the company merged with Nabisco in 2000. Today, the Kraft brand portfolio is one of the strongest of any packaged goods company. Kraft holds the number-one share position in eleven global categories and 22 of the top 25 categories in the U.S. Its brand portfolio includes many well-known products that have earned the trust and satisfaction of millions of consumers worldwide, including Kraft, Nabisco, Maxwell House, and Philadelphia.
